Leytonstone stabbings: two men critical after being knifed in 'fight' near east London train station

Two men have been left fighting for their life in hospital after being stabbed near an east London train station

Police and paramedics were scrambled to High Road in Leytonstone to reports of two men fighting on Wednesday evening.

Officers found a man, aged in his late 20s, suffering from stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital where he remained in a critical condition.

A second man, whose age was not immediately clear, later presented himself to a separate hospital. His was also in a life-threatening condition.

Scotland Yard was working to establish whether the incidents are linked.

Dramatic footage from the scene showed police vehicles lining the street near Leytonstone High Road station, which serves the Overground.

The road was sealed off while officers investigate the stabbings, which unfolded shortly before 7.50pm.

No arrests have been made.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Officers are working to establish whether these incidents are linked.

“At this early stage there have been no arrests.”

Man dead and another fighting for life after wave of London stabbings

One man was killed today and another left critically injured following a wave of knife violence in London

Seven people suffered stab wounds in six separate knife attacks across the capital on Tuesday evening

A 21-year-old died in the early hours after being stabbed in Harlesden at 9.30pm yesterday.

Police said he is thought to have been attacked by a group of men before fleeing into a bookmaker’s attempting to seek help.

Witnesses told how a man was ambushed by a knife wielding gang and stabbed to death after jumping out of a car on Harlesden High Street.

Police at the scene in Harlesden High Street

One claimed the attack was a “revenge mission” by a local gang, and that “trouble has been brewing around here”.

He said: “They were in a car, they jumped out and went for him outside the Paddy Power bookmakers. I’ve seen the guy who died out there before, it looked like they knew who they were looking for.

“The injuries were terrible; people were vomiting because of the extent of the wound.”

Another witness said: “This is a problem area. We feel under threat at night.

“The place was swamped with cops - at first I thought it might be a terror incident what with what has happened in Sri Lanka.”

His shocked friend held him as he lay dying on the ground, he said, with police reportedly later finding a stash of knives left nearby.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said the man was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries at 2.47am.

He added: “He is thought to have been attacked by a group of men before fleeing into a bookmaker’s to seek help.

A 28-year-old man was also fighting for his life after being stabbed in outside a Tesco in Wembley (NIGEL HOWARD ©)

“Seven men have been arrested in connection with this incident and are currently in custody.”

A 28-year-old man was also fighting for his life after being stabbed outside a Tesco in Wembley three hours earlier.

Witnesses told how the victim was involved in an argument with another man before he was chased down Preston Road and stabbed in his chest and stomach.

An onlooker said: “A guy was standing near Tesco and he got stabbed in the chest and the abdomen.

“I think it was three times, it happened really quickly. He was still standing for a few minutes but then he fell on to the pavement. Everyone went around him.

“The beef started further up the road. I don’t know if they were arguing or not. There were two guys standing near the bridge and they both ran down the road and then he got stabbed.”

Suresh Mohan, 43, who lives near the scene, said paramedics desperately tried to stop the bleeding.

“He was still bleeding and the doctors were helping him. They patched him up but you could still see the blood.

“I think he was stabbed in his chest they patched him up with a bandage. He was still and they took him away in ambulance.”

Alin Cruceru, 41, and his wife Maria, 34, were at home when they saw a heavy police presence outside their house.

Mrs Cruceru said: “I feel bad, I don’t feel safe. We have been here for seven years and we have never seen police here.”

Police were called to other stabbings in Wembley, Merton and West Drayton.

The first attack yesterday at around 3pm when seven people were arrested for offences including grievous bodily harm, assisting an offender and possession of firearms, after a man was stabbed in Camomile Way.

At just after 8pm in Tubbs Road, Harlesden, two other men, aged in their 20s, were taken to hospital with slash injuries following a fight.

And at about 10pm last night, police were called to reports of a stabbing in Morden Road, Mitcham, where a man was found suffering stab wounds.

At the same time, two miles away in Mitcham, a 17-year-old boy was found with stab wounds in Tamworth Lane.

In each case the injuries were not thought to be life-threatening and there were no arrests.

Number of killings in Britain's hits
10-year high amid knife epidemic

The number of killings on Britain's streets is at its highest level in a decade, shocking crime figures revealed today

There were 732 police recorded homicides - which includes murders and manslaughter cases - in England and Wales last year, the highest since 2008 and the equivalent of two a day.

The number of knife offences also rose by six per cent - with more 40,800 recorded crimes involving a blade.

Recorded knife crimes are the tip of the iceberg - gang members who have been stabbed prefer to survive without hospital treatment, unless wound is serious

Reported knife wounds involve the police - unreported knife wounds lead to scares that gang members wear with pride

Worryingly, separate figures show fewer criminals are being caught, with only 8.2% of offences leading to charges, down from 9.1% in 2017.

People live in fear of black gangs - nobody dare report them - to report a violent gang people would need witness protection

Witness protection = the witness and their immediate family relocating

Many black families are large extended families - nobody wants to leave all their family and friends; their home; their jobs; children's' schools and friends; just because one of them saw an attack

The only people who will be witnesses are those whose relation is the victim

The figures come as an apparently endless series of stabbings in London and other cities has triggered a political row over cuts to police funding.

Police at the scene of the country's latest knife killing in Harborne, Birmingham this morning

The number of homicides - which includes murder and manslaughter cases - dropped between 2009 and 2014- but has since risen sharply

Today's statistics show a marked increase in the number of knife crimes in the last three years

Today's Office of National Statistics crime report showed an increase in knife offences in 31 of the 43 police forces in the year leading up to December.

The Metropolitan Police recorded the largest volume, at 14,660. Merseyside saw a rise of 35% and North Yorkshire's knife crime increased by 21%. British Transport Police saw an increase of 54%.

The number of overall violent offences recorded by police was more than 1.6million, a 19% increase on 2017.
What do today's crime stats show?

Last year, homicides rose by 6% year-on-year to 732 offences

Robbery offences rose by 11%, to a total of 82,566

There were 40,829 police-recorded offences involving a knife or sharp instrument - a 6% increase

The number of violent offences was more than 1,608,500 last year - a 19% increase on 2017

Total police-recorded crime, excluding fraud and computer misuse, stood at 5.2 million offences in 2018 - up 7%.

The group Victim Support said behind each one of today's statistics is a tragic story of a lives wrecked by crime.

A spokesman said: 'It's deeply concerning to see homicides continue to rise and we know from working with those bereaved by murder and manslaughter through our national Homicide Service just how devastating the impact is on family and friends, witnesses to the crime and the wider community.'

One of the latest killings was that of an 18-year-old man who was stabbed to death in the Harborne area of Birmingham on Wednesday evening.

Yesterday, a 21-year-old man became London's 38th murder victim this year after he was one of four victims stabbed in seven hours of bloodshed in the capital on Tuesday.

The figures will put further pressure on the government to increase funding to police forces, who say they do not have the resources to cope.

Today police in Enfield, north London found this fearsome weapons at a cannabis factory

A map shows knife crime rates for different parts of the country, with darker areas worse

Five worst areas for recorded knife crime

    1. London; 14,660 offences in 2018; up 1% on the previous year.

    2. West Midlands; 3,210; up 17%

    3. West Yorkshire; 2,715; up 20%

    4. Thames Valley (Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire); 1,483; up 19%

    5. Merseyside; 1,231; up 35%
the statistics did not include Greater Manchester

Ashley Bertie, the Assistant Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands, which has seen a surge in stabbings, called for more money.

He said: 'These statistics should be a wake-up call for the government to ensure they give policing the funding it needs.

'West Midlands Police has faced £175 million in central government cuts since 2010. Despite being recognised by independent inspectors as a highly efficient force, we have lost over 2,000 officers since 2010, meaning we are having to do more with less.

'These figures highlight the government's short-sighted approach to policing and the need for a long term funding solution for forces.'

Labour MP Yvette Cooper, who chairs the Home Affairs Select Committee, said the 'disturbing increase' in violent crime comes as arrests continue to fall.

'The police are completely overstretched and crime prevention work is far too limited,' she said.

'The problem of violent crime is going to get worse unless the Government acts, and it is families and communities across the country who are paying a terrible price.'

Longer term trends show that overall crime has decreased from the beginning of the 1990s

Graphs showing the likelihood of being a victim of crime show that around one in four people are hit overall, with fraud the most likely offence to fall victim to

Policing minister Nick Hurd said: 'Today's statistics show that your chance of being a victim of crime remains low, and the Metropolitan Police's more recent figures suggest that action to tackle violent crime is having an impact.

'Yet too many people are still falling victim to serious violence, which is why we will continue our urgent and unprecedented action to reverse this terrible trend.

'We have given police forces additional powers and have this year put more than £1 billion extra into policing, including council tax and £100 million specifically for those areas worst affected by violent crime.

'But law enforcement alone is not the answer which is why our Serious Violence Strategy puts a greater focus on prevention, including by consulting on a proposed new duty to underpin a public health approach to serious violence and investing over £220 million in projects to steer young people away from crime.'

London has already seen 38 murders this year. These were not included in today's stats

County lines drugs gang filmed
boasting 'splash dat cash'

A prolific county lines drugs gang which used children as young as 13 face years in prison for flooding streets with heroin and crack cocaine

The 'Rico/Mitch' gang, which operated between London and Devon, filmed themselves with huge stacks of £50 notes while boasting 'Splash dat cash'.

Two gang members, Shuiab Awadh, 24, and Bobo Faki, 19, were found guilty at Exeter Crown Court of being part of a conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Two gang members, Shuiab Awadh (left), 24, and Bobo Faki (right), 19, were found guilty at Exeter Crown Court of being part of a conspiracy to supply Class A drugs

Faisal Ibraham (left), 25, of Gillingham, Kent, and Hassan Sufi (right), 20, of Dagenham, East London, have both admitted conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine

Another six men and one woman have already pleaded guilty to their part in the crime. All nine will return to the court to be sentenced later this year.

The trial, one of the first to use child exploitation as an aggravating factor, heard how the 'Rico' county lines gang sent youngsters from London to conduct their deals.

Older gang members accompanied them to book hotel rooms in Exeter or take over the homes of local addicts - an act known as cuckooing - to organise sales in the city.

Police linked members of the gang using a mixture of CCTV, phone evidence, DNA and taxi journey records.

Video released by police shows gang member Faisal Ibraham holding cash to his head lounging on a bed while muttering and stroking a handful of notes against his face

Footage shows gang leader Hassan Sufi grinning while holding a stack of £20 and £50 notes

Video released by police shows a gang member lounging on a bed while muttering and stroking a handful of notes against his face.

What is 'cuckooing' in the drugs trade?

'Cuckooing' sees drug dealers take over the homes of vulnerable people as a base for their activities.

The victims are often drug users, but Crimestoppers says they can include older people, those suffering from mental or physical health problems, female sex workers, single mothers and those living in poverty.

Victims may also suffer from other forms of addiction, such as alcoholism.

Gangs will often have access to several homes and will move quickly between them for just a few hours or days to help evade detection.

The gangs may also use properties in rural areas, including serviced apartments, holiday lets, budget hotels and caravan parks.

Another in a Nike tracksuit smokes and flashes his watch beside a box of new shoes.

Footage also shows gang leader Hassan Sufi grinning while holding a stack of £20 and £50 notes.

Voices can be heard in another video saying 'Splash dat cash' as money is tossed on the ground.

Gang co-leader Yakub Sufi can be seen with an unknown friend counting cash on the floor while an incriminating county line drugs mobile phone sits on the bed close by.

Police began an undercover operation in the summer of 2017 using an officer posing as a drug user.

He would receive text messages from lines - named Rico, Mitch and Pricey - saying 'We've got deals for you today'.

Police arrested several drug runners but turned their attention to those further up the chain.

On September 8, 2017, a boy, aged 14 and a gang member called Ahmed Abullahi, were both injured when they jumped from a first floor bedroom in Exeter.

Another gang member in a Nike tracksuit flashes his watch beside a box of new shoes

The teenager said he had brought drugs from London and, thrown them into a neighbouring garden when questioned. Their phones were linked to the Rico and Mitch county lines.

The gang mock Devon and Cornwall Police's press release about county lines gangs

Police connected different members of the gang through phones and car journeys over the next year.

A woman called Khadija Sharif was caught travelling with drugs from London to Exeter - and used a 14-year-old girl to deliver to users.

Faki travelled in cars with members of the gang, packaged drugs for them and visited Hassan Sufi's apartment in London.

A dealer's list using the words D for dark (heroin) and L for light (cocaine) was also found with him and wraps of drugs with his DNA were discovered on a 15-year-old boy arrested in Exeter. The defendant made no comment to police.

Awadh visited the West Country city with two others over Christmas in 2017 and booked into a hotel near the airport.

Within minutes of his arrival the Pedro line was texting 'Pedro 24 hours no waiting around'.

'Awadh came down in that car and that car was bringing drugs to sell on the streets of Exeter,' said prosecutor Mr Joss Ticehurst.

Khadijia Sharif (left), 20, of South Woodford, and Yakub Sufi (right) both admitted conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine

'The dispute between the prosecution and both the defendants is whether they were involved in what the other defendants were involved in.'

Mr Ticehurst told the trial: 'Those two men achieved their supply of drugs onto the streets of Exeter through what has become known as a 'county lines' operation.

'Drugs are sent to Exeter from London to be dealt on the streets.

'The operation had phone numbers associated with all of these drugs - each phone number was given a brand name like Mitch or Rico.

'These phone numbers were used to market, predominantly through text messages, the availability of drugs to people who might have wanted to buy them.'

Robin Janowski (left), 39, of Exeter, and Jake Taplin (right), 22, of HMP Mount in Hertfordshire, both admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin and cocaine

Awadh, 24, of Stratford, East London, and Faki, 19, of Plaistow, East London, were found guilty and will return to court to be sentenced on June 14.

Other defendants, who have already pleaded guilty, include Ahmed Abdullahi, 21, of Harringay, North London, for conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine; and Robin Janowski, 39, of Exeter, for being concerned in the supply of heroin and cocaine.

Also having pleaded guilty are Yakub Sufi for conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine; Khadijia Sharif, 20, of South Woodford, North East London, for conspiracy to supply heroin and cocain; Hassan Sufi, 20, of Dagenham, East London, for conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine; Faisal Ibraham, 25, of Gillingham, Kent, for conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine, of Jake Taplin, 22, of HMP Mount in Hertfordshire, for being concerned in the supply of heroin and cocaine.

What are county lines gangs and how do they operate in Britain?

County lines gangs can earn up to £1million each by recruiting teenagers and children as young as six to help them deal drugs, with those who are disabled and out of school being the most likely targets.

County lines is a drug distribution model which typically involves city gangs branching out into smaller towns or rural areas to sell heroin and crack cocaine.

They deploy vulnerable people as couriers to move drugs and cash between the new market and their urban hub.

The name given to the scheme stems from the phone lines used by dealers.

A map shows how county lines routes are now well-established around the country

Police said last October that the number of gangs shipping heroin and crack cocaine from cities to provincial towns had doubled to 1,500 in under a year.

Using youngsters as drug mules, they were said at the time to be making a combined £7million a day – around £2.5billion a year. Each county lines route is making as much as £5,000 a day.

Last September, a Daily Mail investigation revealed the scale of the crisis which is thought to have enslaved thousands of children – prompting an intervention from Home Secretary Sajid Javid.

Boy, 17, stabbed ‘SIX TIMES’ on bus
by attackers ‘wielding long knife’

A teenage boy was stabbed “six times” on a bus in London as the capital’s knife crime epidemic continues to escalate

The 17-year-old was knifed on the bus in Cricklewood, north west London, at about 5.30pm yesterday. The teenager was stabbed six times, according to unconfirmed reports. One witness claimed the teenager was chased by two men in helmets.

The witness added that one of the attackers was “wielding a long knife”, Mail Online reported.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the youngster was taken to hospital.

In a statement yesterday, a Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 5.30pm on Saturday April 27 to reports of a stabbing on a bus in Cricklewood Lane, near the junction with Cricklewood Broadway, NW2.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a male, believed aged 17, suffering stab injuries.

“He has been taken to a central London hospital for treatment – condition awaits.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing. No arrests have been made and a crime scene remains in place at the scene.”

The teenager remains in hospital but his condition is not life-threatening, police said.

Man 'seriously hurt' in stabbing in Leicester street

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing in the street this evening

Just before 6pm today police were called to Kingston Road in Evington , Leicester, where the man would found. Several roads in the area remain closed off while police carry out their investigations.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said no arrests had been made at this stage as a result of the stabbing, which happened a short distance from the shops and takeaways on Evington Road.

Sections of Kingston Road and some other nearby streets have been closed

She said: "We were called just before 6pm today to reports of a stabbing in Kingston Road.

"One man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and Kingston Road and a number of junctions in the area have been closed off.

"The investigation is in its early stages and there have been no arrests at this time."

An Evington resident told LeicestershireLive people he had spoken to had witnessed a row between several men in Evington Road that led to the man being attacked and ending up injured in Kingston Road.

Residents in the neighbourhood have become concerned about the crime in the area, which last month saw a stabbing and an unrelated car-jacking take place just 20 minutes apart.

One resident, a 32-year-old who lives with his family in Kingston Road but did not want to be named, said: "We have all these incidents and there's not much of a police presence around here, usually. You can go along Evington Road and see people openly dealing drugs at 9pm any day - passing them from car to car.

"It used to be a nice, quiet community."

No details about the injured man have been released except that he was seriously hurt

A 46-year-old woman living nearby said: "I found out what happened because I was just trying to get to the shops but the roads are all closed. It's terrible.

"They had the incident with the man being stabbed in the buttock very close by just last month.

"There's a lot of anti-social behaviour around here so, sadly, the fact there's now been another stabbing doesn't really surprise me.

"It's just a matter of time before someone gets murdered."

Police release photo of Hackney man stabbed in the heart as they charge 16-year-old with murder

Police have released a picture of Hackney stabbing victim Joshua White as they charged a 16-year-old with murder.

Mr White, 29, from Homerton was found with knife injuries on Frampton Road at 2.43pm on Friday. He later died in hospital.

A post-mortem found he died of a stab wound to the heart.

Police investigating his death arrested a 16-year-old boy at the scene and he was later charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Stratford Youth Court on April 29.

Detectives have said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, including the stabbing of a man in his 20s in Wilton Way.

A youth worker who lived nearby to where Mr White was found, and gave her name as Hannah, said she went to school with the victim, adding that he was a "decent young man".

She added: "It's got to the point that the kids don't value lives anymore. It's just sad that this couldn't have been prevented."

Dean Saliba, 40, said he witnessed the scene when he arrived at a shop on the street.

"I turned up after. Someone in the shop said he was stabbed in the back as he ran to escape," Mr Saliba, from Bethnal Green, said.

"He was having a seizure when I arrived and there was a lot of blood."

Mike Mukuna, pastor at the nearby UCKG help centre, was walking close to the scene in the immediate aftermath of the stabbing.

"When I arrived it just happened. He was just bleeding on the floor," he said.

Mr Mukuna said locals had gathered around to help and had the man in the recovery position.

Hackney stabbing death
Teenage boy killed in double knifing

A teenage boy has been stabbed to death in an attack in Hackney, London

The victim, who police believe was 15 years old, was found injured in Somerford Grove at about 21:00 BST on Wednesday and died shortly after, Scotland Yard said.

A shopkeeper said a boy ran into his store pleading for help saying he had been stabbed in the back.

A second boy, aged 16, found in a nearby road, was also stabbed but did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

A man from the Elif Food Centre, who did not want to be named, told BBC London he tried to help one of the victims.

He said: "One boy came running into the shop last night saying 'I have been stabbed in the back. Help me. Help me'.

"We called an ambulance and now police have seized our CCTV."

Police said a section 60 stop-and-search order had been put in place for the whole of Hackney. No arrests have been made.

At the scene
By Leigh Milner, BBC News

Just off a main busy road there is a huge cordon covering all around the Somerford Grove estate.

A 24-hour off licence shop has also been taped off as police officers stand guard in the area.

Right in the middle of the cordon a big blue tent can be seen - the spot where the victim died.

Residents have been telling me they are shocked and scared as only six days ago another person was stabbed to death in Hackney.

Hours later, officers were called to another, unrelated, stabbing near Camden Town Tube station.

A man suffered "life-threatening" injuries in the attack on Camden Road shortly after midnight.

So far this year, more than 40 murder investigations have been launched in the capital by the Metropolitan and British Transport police forces.

Twenty-nine of those investigations have been as a result of fatal stabbings.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was "deeply saddened" by the latest killing in Hackney.

He added: "This horrific violence has absolutely no place on our streets."

London's 45th murder victim this year, age 18

London's 45th murder victim this year has been named as an 18-year-old man who was stabbed to death in London after being chased through the streets

Junior Urugbezi-Edwards was found with knife wounds in Tiverton Street in Elephant and Castle, south London, at around 9.30pm on Sunday amid a weekend of Bank Holiday violence.

He was being chased by a man wearing a blue or grey hooded sweatshirt before he was attacked, police have said. Mr Urugbezi-Edwards was rushed to hospital but died at 10.51pm.

Earlier today, a group of his friends laid flowers at the scene. Speaking at the police cordon, a 19-year-old man said: 'It is a big loss. He was a funny guy and he was a good person.

'He was one of those friend's that was always good to have around. When you were low, he would bring you up.

'He had a lot of friends and he was a much loved person. I have been friends with him for years. He was at college but I think he was taking a gap year before uni.'

The teenager's death was the second to trigger a murder probe in London on Sunday after a 52-year-old man was deliberately struck and killed by a car in Leytonstone.

He was being chased by a man wearing a blue or grey hooded sweatshirt before he was attacked, police have said. Mr Urugbezi-Edwards was rushed to hospital but died at 10.51pm

There were outbreaks of violence elsewhere over the weekend, with a murder in Bootle and two other serious incidents in Birmingham and Nottingham.

Elsewhere in the country, a man in his 30s died after an 'altercation' in Bootle, Merseyside at around 1.55am yesterday.

A 41-year-old man from Bootle was arrested at the scene and is being questioned by police.

A forensic tent was also seen in Bristol Street, Birmingham, where two men got into a fight involving a knife and suffered injuries to their faces.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: 'Police are investigating after two men were injured in Bristol Street, Birmingham shortly before 3.30am yesterday morning.

'We believe a fight has taken place and subsequently two men were taken to hospital, where they remain with significant injuries to their face. We believe a sharp implement was used and investigations are ongoing to determine what happened.'

Four people were taken to hospital in Nottingham after they were hurt in a disturbance 'involving a knife' outside Pryzm night club in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.

An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said of the London incident: 'Police were called by the London Ambulance Service on Sunday, 5 May at around 21:30hrs to reports of a stabbing on Tiverton Street, SE1.

Bank Holiday violence spreads across England

A 52-year-old man was deliberately struck by a car in Leytonstone High Road, east London at 12.40am on Sunday. He was taken to hospital where he died just after 5.15pm. No arrests have been made and another man, 32, remains in hospital.

At 9.30pm an 18-year-old boy was stabbed in Tiverton Street, Elephant & Castle after being chased by another man. He was rushed to hospital but died at 10.51pm. No arrests have been made.

A man in his 30s has died after an 'altercation' in Monfa Road, Bootle Merseyside at 1.55am on Bank Holiday Monday. A 41-year-old man has been arrested and is still being questioned by police.

A forensic tent has been erected in Bristol Street, Birmingham, overnight after a violent incident broke out at around 3am.

Four people were injured after a disturbance 'involving a knife' outside Pryzm night club in Nottingham at 3.48am.

An 18-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

'Officers attended along with London's Air Ambulance and found a man, aged 18, suffering from stab injuries.

'He was taken to a south London hospital where he died at 22:51hrs. His next of kin have been informed.

'A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. Formal identification awaits.

'The Homicide and Major Crime Command has been informed and will be leading on this investigation under DCI Richard Leonard. A crime scene remains in place.

'There have been no arrests at this time. A number of active enquiries are in hand including review of local CCTV footage, house to house calls and forensic analysis at the scene.'

DCI Leonard added: 'We need those who have information about the culprit(s) for this murder to get in touch with police immediately.

'The victim was seen being chased by another male wearing a grey or blue hoody from Newington Gardens into Tiverton Street where he was attacked and shortly after found by police and London Air Ambulance.

'Were you there? Did you see anything? Your information could prove vital to solving this case and I would urge you to get in touch.'

Anyone with information is requested to call the police incident room on 0208 721 4622. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The 52-year-old man who died in east London was deliberately run over by a driver following an argument in Leytonstone at 12.40am on Sunday.

He died in hospital just after 5.15pm while another man, 32, remains in hospital with serious injuries which are not life threatening.

A police cordon is pictured in Nottingham city centre this morning after a violent incident just before 4am injured four people outside Pryzm night club

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley said: 'At this early stage, it is appears that this was a deliberate act by the driver of the car.

'There had been an altercation in the street prior to this incident and I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet come forward, to contact police.'

Stats released last week show the number of killings in London dropped by a quarter over the past year, while knife injuries among the capital's under-25s is down by 15 per cent.

Figures suggest the carnage could now be pushed into other cities, with figures published last week showing knife crime is up 35 per cent in Merseyside, 20 per cent in West Yorkshire and 17 per cent in the West Midlands.

The number of killings was up by nearly half in Yorkshire and almost 20 per cent in the North West.

Scotland Yard insisted it is showing the way to deal with the spiralling violence, with increased use of stop of search and the 'relentless' seizure of criminals cash and weapons.

A map of London shows the 45 murders suspected murders that have taken place so far in 2019

Met Commissioner Cressida Dick said booming demand for cocaine and crack was leading young gangs to battle over territory.

The number of stop and searches carried out in London increased by 30 per cent in the last year to around 172,000.

More than a quarter of those searches led to police finding weapons or drugs, with around 15 per cent of people stopped later being arrested.

Excuse me, my maths may not be brilliant but if more than 25% had weapons or drugs, why were only 15% of them arrested ???

But Ms Dick insisted stop and search is just 'one of a number of tools' being used by the police, who also seized more than £100million in cash from criminals last year, ranging from large-scale kingpins shipping huge amounts of drugs, to smaller-time street dealers.

The new stats show that, of the 122 homicides recorded in London in the last 12 months, 25 people were killed in domestic incidents, 69 with a knife and 10 with a gun.

The number of under-25s who were stabbed fell from 2,079 to 1,768 youths

The majority of victims, 83, were male. The largest number - 50 - were of Afro-Caribbean ethnicity, followed by white Europeans with 44.

There were 14 Asian deaths, seven dark European and two Arabian or Egyptian, the figures showed.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... hased.html

Back to my maths: 122 killed;
50 Afro-Caribean
44 white Europeans
14 Asian
7 dark skinned European
2 Arabian/Egyptian

= 117

Is there any wonder that the white English community is not happy with the influx of ethnic minority groups in the UK

Surgeon says knife crime is having
ripple effect across entire NHS

The UK’s knife crime epidemic is causing all patients to suffer across the NHS, a leading surgeon has warned

Rising numbers of stabbings are believed to be having a ‘ripple effect’ across hospitals, leading to cancelled operations and strains on the ambulance service.

Professor Chris Moran, national clinical director for trauma at NHS England, also told the Daily Mail police have even had to be deployed on some wards to stop potentially armed gangs who hoped to ‘finish the job’ in hospital.

The warning comes after figures last month showed police in England and Wales recorded 40,829 offences involving knives or sharp objects in 2018 – the highest number since 2010 to 2011.

Research by NHS England also shows the number of teenagers admitted to hospital has increased by 54 per cent, from 656 admissions in 2012 to 2013, to 1,012 between 2017 and 2018.

Mr Moran, Professor of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at Nottingham University Hospital, said the increasing number of people admitted with stab wounds ‘has a ripple effect through the whole system’.

He told the Daily Mail: ‘There’s a large number who’ve got very serious injuries who need the trauma team, they need admission, they need … intensive care… it means operating time is lost, while we do extra emergency cases.

‘It’s having a significant increase in acute services in the NHS and then a knock-on effect in elective care because you end up cancelling surgery to operate in these cases, a knock-on effect on general practitioners who are having to try and pick up the pieces.’

Admissions across all ages for knife and sharp object injuries – such as glass – have gone up by almost a third since 2012, from 3,849 to 4,986 last year.

Earlier this week, Home Secretary Sajid Javid said £12.4 million will be distributed to 18 police forces dealing with high levels of violent crime as part of a £100 million fund.

He said: ‘I’ve been doing everything in my power to ensure we have the strongest possible response to tackle violent crime – and law enforcement plays a key role in this.

‘This money means forces can take urgent action, including more officers on duty in the worst affected areas.

‘It takes a collective effort to tackle violent crime and I’ll continue to work closely with police and partners to end this senseless bloodshed.’

Teen rushed to hospital after being
knifed in broad daylight in south London

A teenager has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in broad daylight, police said

Emergency services raced to St Oswalds Road, in Croydon, South London, at about 3.20pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said a 19-year-old man had been stabbed and was taken to a south London hospital after.

His condition has been described as critical, but stable.

A cordon was set up after the violent attack and road closures were also put in place.

Officers confirmed there had been no arrests, and enquiries continue.

A Section 60 order was put in place for the whole of Croydon and Sutton following, meaning police have extra powers to stop and search any person or vehicle without need of reasonable suspicion.

Sutton Councillor Ryan Stoneman tweeted: “Really sad to hear about the gentleman who has been stabbed in Norbury.

“I welcome the declaration of Section 60 by the police covering Croydon and Sutton, to keep us all safe.”

Sick 'scoreboard' which sees gangs award points for deadly attacks

The victims of sick 'scoreboard' knife game: How gangs award 50 points for stabbing someone in the head, 30 in the chest and 10 for leg - then use Drill rap videos to brag about their crimes on YouTube

Gangs are awarding 'points' to members who carry out attacks on rivals

Members get scores for parts of the body hit, in system linked to video games

Two murders have now been linked to gangs which brag about scores online
Teenagers are dying on Britain's streets because of a sick 'scoreboard' system which sees gangs members awarded different 'points' for stabbing rivals on different parts of the body.

Young thugs get maximum points for inflicting a head injury, with lower scores for hitting the chest or stomach, in a system experts think stems from violent computer games.

At least two deaths have been linked to gangs who boasted about scores in drill videos online, with many more feared to have been injured in the carnage.

Earlier this year, The Mail On Sunday revealed gangs were boasting of their gruesome score tally on social media, fuelling an explosion in tit-for-tat violence.

Now an investigation by Sky News has found 17-year-old Rhyhiem Barton, who was shot dead in Kennington in May last year, had previously rapped about 'the scoreboard' in a music for his 'Moscow 17' gang.

The murder of Tavis Spencer-Aitkens in Ipswich in June last year also came after his killers bragged about the scoring system in a drill video they posted online.

Tavis Spencer-Aitkens and Rhyhiem Barton have both died in attacks linked to gangs who boast about their 'scoreboard', in which members gets points for different attacks and crimes

Gang members get the most points for attacking someone in the head, then lesser 'scores' for injuring a rival on another part of the body, the Sky News investigation claims

Rhyhiem Barton - who rapped under the name GB - was killed on the Brandon Estate where he lived. Relatives said he was shot from a BMW by thugs armed with a shotgun.

His devastated mother, Pretana Morgan, who had previously sent Rhyhiem to live with relatives in Jamaica following an earlier stabbing, had to wash his blood from the pavement.

His murder was one of five shootings in London that weekend amid tit-for-tat violence among rival gangs.

A Moscow 17 drill video he appeared in included the lyrics 'check the scoreboard' and repeated references to people getting 'splashed', slang for stabbing.

In Ipswich a month after Barton's murder, Tavis Spencer-Aitkens, aged 17, was attacked by a gang and later died of a stab wound.

He was friends with a gang known as 'The Three' and was attacked by a rival group called 'J-Block', a reference to the Jubilee Park area of Ipswich.

Five members of J-Block have since been jailed for a combined total of more than 100 years over the murder and it later emerged some of the killers had appeared in YouTube rap video which referred to 'scoring points'.

Rhyhiem's devastated mother, Pretana Morgan, who had tried to shield him from the violence on their estate, scrubbed his blood of the pavement following the fatal attack

Mr Preddie, a former gang member who has been awarded the OBE for his work with young offenders, previously warned that the scoring system was fuelling violence.

He told Mail On Sunday: 'The bigger the crime the higher the points, the more and more you do something the more and more rep [reputation] you get, the more you get ranked up,'

Mr Preddie said gang members send bragging messages on Snapchat or other social media to each other with videos of the violent acts accompanied by coded emojis signifying the particular crime.

'It's for everything you can think of from petty theft to phone-snatching to gang-related incidents,' he said.

'You don't see the scores but you see them posing with the knives and with the big money… that's part of the points system. It's a systemised culture.

Four were convicted of Tavis Spencer-Aitkens' murder. Kyreis Davies got a minimum of 21 years. Aristote Yenge will serve at least 25 years

Four were convicted of Tavis Spencer-Aitkens' murder. Adebayo Amusa got a minimum of 23 years. Isaac Calver will serve at least 21 years

Mr Preddie added: 'If a child in Slough has suddenly found out about Scores, he's found it through YouTube.

'These Drill rappers have massive platforms to inform the minds of young people.'

The Commissioner of the Met Police, Cressida Dick, recently said she believes her force has turned the tide on knife crime thanks in part of the increased use of stop and search.

But figures suggest suggest the bloodshed could now be moving to other cities.

Stats published earlier this month showing knife crime is up 35% in Merseyside, 20% in West Yorkshire and 17% in the West Midlands. The number of killings was up by nearly half in Yorkshire and almost 20% in the North West.

A mysterious convict left jail in style today when he was given a hero's welcome by an entourage of pals and whisked away in a luxury Rolls Royce Phantom.

The supposed ex-prisoner, who walked free in a grey tracksuit ensemble and clutching a clear bag of his possessions, grinned from ear to ear as his mates slapped him on the back and embraced him.

High-fives were exchanged before the unknown man posed in front of a camera-phone outside Standford Hill Prison on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent before hopping into the backseat of the exclusive Rolls Royce.
